About Us

We are Ann and Dale Potter, and our farm is located in northwestern North Carolina, about 25 miles north of Winston-Salem. Ann is the Director of Health Services at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Dale is a nurse anesthetist at Duke Hospital. Our farm is home to a herd of about 12 llamas, one alpaca, and three delightful angora goats.

Pottersandmountain copy.jpg (22576 bytes)We fell in love with llamas in 1993, when our children were 7 and 8 years old. We were looking for livestock that our children could help to care for safely, and after some research, we decided that llamas were the perfect match. Now that our children are adults, we continue breeding llamas on a small scale basis, and our focus is primarily on producing exceptional fiber products. As our interest in fiber products expands, we have added other valuable fiber animals to our farm. Ann, whose family is from Australia, grew up knitting. Since becoming a llama owner, she has attained a great deal of hands-on experience with shearing, carding, dying, spinning and knitting.

At Pilot Mountain Llamas, we consider our llamas to be an active part of our lives. More than just being beautiful pasture ornaments, our llamas participate in llama shows, parades, and other local events such as storytime at the local library and events at churches, nursing homes, and schools. Two llamas raised at our farm were wedding attendents at their new owners' wedding!

We have sale animals that would be suitable for breeding, fiber producers, companion animals, and guardians. If you are a beginner to the world of llamas, we offer a lot of support to new llama owners.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our site, and please be sure to contact us for more information. We welcome visitors to our farm, so call us or drop us a line to schedule an appointment.
